The Pixie 2 is a very small, cheap and easy-to-build one-frequency, direct conversion transceiver. I have built two of them, but the first one was fried just a day or two after I finished it. Moral of this story: don't work on radios with the power on, if you can avoid it! My second pixie 2 is built on a piece of wood, and modified a little - the LM386 is replaced with a single transistor, and a crystal earpiece is used instead of a low-impedance speaker. The only reason I built this second one is because metal-case transistors look so incredibly cute. Just have a look at the picture!
